Is Ozempic cheaper than Wegovy without insurance?

At standard strengths they cost the same: $349 a month through NovoCare Pharmacy or each drug’s savings offer, and $199 for a new patient’s first two fills of 0.25 or 0.5 mg through December 31, 2026[1][2]. At the top strength, Wegovy HD 7.2 mg ($399) is $100 a month less than Ozempic 2 mg ($499).

What does a year cost?

Twelve monthly fills at $349 are $4,188 for either, or $3,888 with two $199 intro fills[2][1]. Twelve months of Ozempic 2 mg are $5,988; of Wegovy HD, $4,788. Arithmetic only.

Which is covered by insurance or Medicare?

Both savings offers can bring the cost to as little as $25 with commercial coverage[3][2]. Ozempic is a diabetes medicine, so plans and Medicare Part D often cover it for type 2 diabetes; Wegovy for weight loss is covered by Medicare only through the GLP-1 Bridge at $50 a month for eligible enrollees[4].

Is cost the only difference?

No. Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes and is not approved for weight loss[3]; Wegovy is approved for weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction[2]. Which one is appropriate is your prescriber’s call.
